Leave me a scenario (one of your own or choose from here) and include any particular preferences as well if you wish.
Or, if you want to just leave a comment with a picture or a word as a prompt and suggest which muse of mine you want, that works too! I might just be a bit slow with those.
Make a reply asking for anyone here on the subject title.
If you choose a character on the maybe list, I will definitely be slow with them.
If you know a specific "verse" of character you want, specify. If it's a cross-canon scene and you don't specify, you might get a CR AU.
Alternately, if you'd rather place a comment on the muse's contact post. Or if you want to do something a little more privately, let me know and I'll set something up elsewhere.
Go to the RNG if you don't have a specific scenario in mind.
Merlin smiled as he executed a bow to her and nodded. "Aye. I met his grandson recently, and had a chance to discuss the conversations that Donovan references in the last section. It was illuminating."
Which was to say, yes, he was familiar with it. "I'm giving a talk on Cregersen's alternative doctrine later, but I'll definitely be at the Donovan's talk as well."
If at all possible, Beverly lights up even further. The idea of meeting his grandson and being at the Donovan's talk and giving a talk on the alternative doctrine... Beverly may have just met her new inspiration.
"I was planning to go to Donovan's talk and the Cregersen's--" Oh but that means... If he's giving the Cregersen's talk. Oh... She flushes bright red. "I'm sorry. You probably aren't here to talk to a student." And anything she has to say he's probably already heard a thousand times already.
"Truly? Then I will know someone out in the crowd will know what I'm talking about." His smile was warm and he grinned wider at her at her words.
"Madame, I assure you, some of my best conversations are had with students. It is only if we free our minds of restrictions such as parent and child or student and teacher that we can truly come to learn everything we are to know in life." Yes, Beverly, you've found a philosopher in this one, a bit.
Beverly is very honestly surprised at his delight. She hadn't expected a lecturer to want to talk to a student, but now that he has said as much, she doesn't want to let him go. Instead, she motions almost frantically at one of the empty chairs.
"I know you must be busy, but you're welcome to stay if you want to rest your feet. Standing all day isn't good for them." So says the budding doctor.
She smiles, obviously agreeing with that small bit of philosophy. "My name is Beverly Howard. It really is a pleasure to meet you, sir. I'm very much looking forward to your lecture. I was hoping that attending would broaden my horizons and my knowledge of the subject."
Merlin sat across from her, settling his messenger bag down on the table to one side, the heavy sound of books and the wrinkling of papers sounding as he dd so. He was, really lecturing, bending his eons of expertise to this good effort, even if he was not who most thought he was.
"This is a free hour, and I would much rather spend it talking with an intelligent and fresh mind, than sitting in an office eating alone." He nodded, eyes dancing with humor. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Howard. I am called Professor Merlin Ambrosius. And I hope I will be able to both keep you interested and teach you something."
Beverly eagerly shifts to give Merlin her full attention. "Thank you, Professor," she replies with a warm smile. "I have no doubt that you will do both. Cregersen's alternative doctrine is fascinating and I'm looking forward to hearing about it from another source and another angle. Sometimes Starfleet Medical can be a little..." She pauses, glances around, and then leans closer. "Stifling."
That's putting it mildly. Sometimes she feels like she can't catch her breath inside.
"Are you attending any of the other talks? There's one on herbal and natural medicines that I hope to attend. I know it isn't traditional, but, well... I guess herbs run in my family."
Merlin grinned at her, delighting in her eager scholarship and open mind. "Thank you, madame. Scholarship ever is a hard road. Trying to both be a healer and a scholar makes one's mind whirl a bit at times." He made a face, humor showing in his eyes. "It's enough to make a man want to flee back to his quiet country practice."
He nodded, gently squeezing her shoulder. "I understand. It is the quiet clench of strength, weaving through stifling halls while one seeks knowledge and skills to reach one's goal."
He nodded. "Aye. I was planning on being at that one, as well. I grew up outside the big cities, and I've used more than one 'oddball remedy' when nothing else worked."
"Yes," Beverly agrees slowly. "That's it exactly." His perception amazes her immediately. Somehow he seems to have gotten to the heart of the problem before she even did.
"My Nana does that, too." Thinking about Nana always brings a smile to her face. Nana was her inspiration, the person who encouraged her and supported her, whose own works and life were the reason Beverly began her career. "She inspired me after the Arvada III disaster. Now she's a healer on Caldos and I'm studying to become a doctor."
She hopes she will be half the doctor that Nana is.
Merlin smiled gently. "You'll find your own path, in time. we all do. Our way of practicing in and outside of the lines. Each doctor, like each person, has to find their own path."
He gestured over his wrist, where a watch seemingly stood, which was really a transfigured magic mirror. Above it appeared a globe with many different medical disciplines named in it, and then overlaying it were different approaches, which rotated through the disciplines.
"Sometimes, we even keep an open mind, and change our minds as we grow older." He winked at her.
This man has wonderful words of wisdom, Beverly muses, watching him with impressed eyes. Those are words she will have to take to heart.
The watch is fascinating. She has a feeling that some engineer would love to get a hold of it.
"I'll keep that in mind," she promises teasingly, glancing at her own watch. "Ten more minutes and then I need to head for my next lecture. Thank you for keeping me company. This was... unexpectedly pleasant." Not because she had expected him to be boring by any means, but more because she had not expected company at all.
