  • Leave me a scenario (one of your own or choose from here) and include any particular preferences as well if you wish.
  • Or, if you want to just leave a comment with a picture or a word as a prompt and suggest which muse of mine you want, that works too! I might just be a bit slow with those.
  • Make a reply asking for anyone here on the subject title.
  • If you choose a character on the maybe list, I will definitely be slow with them.
  • If you know a specific "verse" of character you want, specify. If it's a cross-canon scene and you don't specify, you might get a CR AU.

  • Alternately, if you'd rather place a comment on the muse's contact post. Or if you want to do something a little more privately, let me know and I'll set something up elsewhere.
  • Go to the RNG if you don't have a specific scenario in mind.
  • Have fun!

It's absolute madness around them, making it difficult to even speak. He has so many questions that unfortunately must remain unanswered because the safety of everyone takes precedence. But they'll talk; as soon as they can, they'll talk properly. He doesn't want to appear impolite in any way since he'd only hastily introduced himself, but she seems so outwardly collected that he knows she must understand. There are things that must be attended to first, pleasantries and conversation come later.

It's a relief once they make it inside the cave, and Robin instinctively holds onto his son while he looks around at the healers tending to everyone. They have such strange equipment with them, technology he can't begin to understand. Yet, so far, it's saved them, made this all so much better. Robin's fingers glide through Roland's hair with a tender touch, and he's pulled out of his contemplation of the goings-on around him by Beverly's soft voice. There's something soothing in her tone; just a few words and she manages to set him at ease. Roland still feels a bit feverish, too warm for Robin's liking, but he doesn't expect him to be healed instantly. He nods solemnly, carefully shrugging off his cloak with one arm and draping it completely around Roland, wrapping him up securely as he presses a tender kiss to his temple. He speaks words of assurance, not even sure how much Roland can hear him right now, but needing to soothe nonetheless.

When Beverly tells him they plan to take them all back to the Enterprise, Robin's head snaps up, a confused and slightly worried look on his face.

"I'm sorry, I...I don't mean to doubt you or your intentions, it's just...I hadn't expected to leave our home." Even as he says the words, though, he reminds himself they don't have a home left here anymore. The land has been ravaged. "Would this be temporary until the sickness is contained?"

Of course Robin beats her to wrapping up his son with his own cloak. Beverly is not surprised, so she turns to wrap up someone else in more need than she is, making sure once again that everyone else is doing as well as can be. They seem to be handling the change. Not perfectly, no, but nothing is perfect right now. The patients are all alive and most of them are stable. The biggest risk factor is the young child. Roland has Beverly's highest concern right now.

She gives Robin and Roland what time they need, only turning back to Robin when he speaks his question to her. It's a question with both an easy answer and a completely difficult one. The last thing Beverly would want to do would be leave them in this situation again. With what looks like a war being waged and this virus that they don't yet have a permanent cure for, she doesn't like the idea of setting them loose again and leaving them to whatever fate may be here. But she's always been more willing to break the Prime Directive than most anyone else on the Enterprise.

Still, her answer right now is clear: "It would be temporary. Technically, I shouldn't even be here at all and our captain will protest my request to bring you on board. But since we can't cure this with just what we have available, I'm willing to press the issue. According to the rules and regulations we uphold, we would only be keeping you until you're cured. Then we'll have to return you, regardless of the status of everything on your planet."

Regardless of the war and whether or not a permanent cure can be administered to the entire population, the Enterprise will not be keeping these people. Not unless they request asylum. At this point, Beverly does not expect that. She expects that this planet is their home, no matter what is going on right now, and that they will want to return.

Something shakes the cave overhead, raining dust and small rock pieces down. Beverly automatically takes a step closer to Robin and Roland just in case she might need to help keep the boy safe, her attention pulled to the ceiling of the cave. "This system had better be sturdy," she murmurs.

Even with his thoughts so completely focused on his boy, Robin still watches her, captivated by how diligently and efficiently she works. He's only just met her but with her singular focus on the needs of everyone around her, he has the distinct feeling she's the type of person who won't accept help herself easily. Perhaps he's wrong, but the sort of people who do so much for others so rarely think of themselves and their own needs. If that's true, he'll be keeping an eye on her, helping her when he can, when Roland is more on the mend.

For the time being, Robin appreciates that answer. He's grateful for their help, but as desolate as their land has become, it's still home. He has little incentive to leave, at least for the moment. But he truly appreciates her honesty and as his fingers idly and tenderly stroke through Roland's dark curls, Robin nods his understanding. "Thank you. We're appreciative of the help, even temporary. I just...couldn't lose my boy. He's all I have." There's a lengthier explanation there, but one that will have to wait. They're busy, and his thoughts are disrupted by the trembling of the cave. He holds Roland tighter instinctively, noting how Beverly's stepped closer as well. She truly has the instincts of a parent, of someone who always puts others before herself. It's incredibly admirable.

"I'm hoping the same," he agrees, with a wary look in his eye. He hasn't been to these caves in quite some time and though they seemed the best place to take refuge for now, he's wondering if they would have been better off trying to make it outside.

Something shifts in Beverly at Robin's words. He's all I have. Her gaze turns from the ceiling above them to meet his and in her eyes is the clear sign of understanding. She understands that. Even though she had to let her son go not that long ago, less than a year, perhaps... losing Wesley had never been an option. She couldn't. If anything had ever happened, if he had ever died, she would have lost herself.

Losing Jack had made her lose herself for a time, until Wesley had pulled her back. If she lost their son now, she would lose every piece of herself, everything that makes her life worth living. Her son is her most important person right now and she feels his absence very keenly. So she can certainly understand Robin's feelings. More than she can say right now, but she is sure that her expression will say what words cannot.

They don't have much time beyond that for talking. Right at that moment, the ceiling gives way. Beverly has just enough time to give Robin a push to get him out of the path of the rocks before they come tumbling down. She dodges the worst of it, but when the dust clears, there's a solid barrier of rocks between the three of them and the rest of the group.

And Beverly has been partially buried. At the moment, she's been knocked out cold. Her medkit isn't far away. Luckily, that is on their side, and her phaser is still on her hip. She's got a head injury that's bleeding and likely at least one other somewhere else. An arm, a leg, maybe her side. As it is, her upper body is visible, but that's about all.

If Robin listens, he'll hear the calls from the other side. Specifically Alyssa Ogawa trying to call for Doctor Crusher. In a few minutes, those calls change to protests of, "We're not ready! Doctor Crusher is--!"

And then silence as the rest of the team is beamed up to the Enterprise. Not that Beverly or Robin know that now. Not that Beverly knows anything except the darkness of her unconsciousness right now. She will wake soon, but not right away.

Robin barely has time to react before everything above their heads begins to collapse. His first instinct is to protect his son, and then half a second later, he glances at Beverly, wanting to help her if he can. But then she pushes him before his brain can fully catch up, and he stumbles back, clear of the collapse. Roland groggily lifts his head, rousing a bit and looking worried before flopping his head back down, too tired to react much. It's just as well, because Beverly is in the most danger at the moment.

Setting Roland down gently where he can lay comfortably, Robin moves back to Beverly, his heart pounding in fear. The worry over his son hasn't completely abated, and now the woman who's already done so much to help them is possibly dying in front of him.

Because she saved him, and saved his son again. He'll do whatever he can to help her, and he just desperately hopes that she's still with him, still holding on. He can hear voices from the other side, assumes they're just as scared for Beverly, but he doesn't realize they've actually gone. Gently, he moves to cradle Beverly's head in his lap, lightly patting her cheek and then squeezing her shoulder, trying to rouse her. But he doesn't want to hurt her, not knowing how badly she's injured.

"Beverly - Beverly, come on, wake up," he urges, his voice right by her ear. He's not expecting anything, not with that head injury. "You'll be all right, I swear it," he whispers. He just has to move the rocks somehow. Tearing off part of his tunic, he wraps her head a bit, trying to stem the bleeding from her head wound before he shifts. He remembers she had a weapon of some sort, a device, and he pushes at some rocks to try and find it. He has no idea if it will work on these rocks, but he has to try. There's a fear he might injure her further, but the longer these rocks are on her, the worse off she'll be. He finally spots the device on her hip, points it at the rocks, and just presses a few buttons, hoping something works.

The last time she was injured like this was years ago, back during her first year on the Enterprise. The memory flits through her mind as she finally begins to rouse. This feels... oddly similar to that, except that now she's hearing phaser fire. And her head is elevated, which is a good thing. Were she in better shape, she would likely try to get away from that sound. It's far too close. But at the moment, moving is entirely beyond her. So instead she attempts to take the advice that she would give any other patient in her place:

    Stay awake.

Unfortunately, focus is a difficult thing right now. The struggle is very intense, but she fights the battle as best she can, forcing her eyes open so she isn't tempted to sleep again. The weight on her legs seems to be decreasing somehow -- maybe that's what the phaser fire is...? -- and she groans softly as numbness gives way to aching pain. It will burn soon, she knows.

Licking her lips, she tries to speak, but with her throat so dry from the dust and dirt stirred up by the cave-in, she doesn't get very far. "What...?" she finally manages, trying to focus her gaze on who she thinks is cradling her head in his lap. "Robin?"

He's honestly surprised when the device seems to be...doing exactly what he wanted it to do. His hand isn't quite as steady as he'd prefer, but his aim is true. There's immediate relief when he hears Beverly's voice, and he instantly takes his finger off the little button so it will stop firing. He's terrified he'll hurt her even more, so he sets it aside, gently cradling the upper half of her body.

"I'm here," Robin is quick to assure her. "You've been badly injured, I'm not...quite sure the extent of the damage, but...I'll take care of you. I promise." He'll do absolutely anything to make her better, after everything she's already done for his boy. Just to soothe her for a brief moment, his fingers stroke across her forehead.

"I want to move you a bit, get you more comfortable. I'm...not sure if it's safe. Can you feel much in your legs?"

A long time has passed since anyone has held her like this, either because they wanted to or because they had to. It's been an equally long time since she has been injured like this. In fact, she can distinctly remember -- or, at least, it's distinct when she has control over the entirety of her mental faculties -- falling into a hole and having to coach Jean-Luc through something similar.

It felt a lot like this in different ways. Similarly different ways...

Somehow that makes sense to her addled brain.

With how she is feeling, moving her too far is not a good idea. Not until a medical team can get down here or she gets beamed up to sickbay. Speaking of a medical team, where is hers? A frown creases her face. Speaking is still taking a great deal of focus, but that extra concentration is helping her stay awake. That is something she can use.

"I had... a small medical kit," she begins slowly. "It shouldn't be far. If you can find it, there should be a small square device inside. That... if you unfold it... that can help us determine my state." Oh but right, he asked a question. Her frown of concentration deepens a bit. "Ache. My legs ache. They don't feel broken... but there's... sharp pain in my head, my side, and... I'm losing blood. I can't tell where."

Her head injury is definitely one of the culprits, but there's also a gash on one leg and a mildly fractured rib. She's lucky the rib didn't puncture her skin. Or anything inside.

Robin is so incredibly worried - particularly as he feels relatively out of his element at the moment - but also determined to get her through this. When she mentions that she's losing blood but she's not sure where, that adds to his concern, but he focuses on one thing at a time. Grab the device she made mention of, use that to look her over. It's all so strange to him, these devices and the advancements her people have made, but it's also infinitely useful.

"Right. I'll fetch it." Before he moves, though, he shrugs out of his outer vest, bunching it up and gently lifting her head so she has a small, makeshift pillow. He can't imagine the hard ground is comfortable, though he's infinitely careful not to injure her head further when he moves it.

Quickly, he searches for and finds her medical kit, bringing it to her and pulling out what looks like the square device she mentioned. He kneels beside her so she can hopefully see that he has it, though he glances at her face for a moment just to be sure she's still awake and hanging on. Then he unfolds the device, holding it over her, not sure if he needs to do anything else.

"Is...this all I need to do?" He wants, badly, to tend to her noticeable injuries, everything he can see. "I'll wrap up your injuries in a moment, I promise."

Beverly realizes belatedly that this means she will have to talk him through making sense of the tricorder's readings. There are worse things. At least that will help keep her awake and concentrating, even if it takes all of her focus and brainpower.

The fact that he gives her his vest as a pillow is something she tries to hold onto. She'll have to thank him for all of this later on. When she can actually think straight.

"For now, yes," she tells him, trying her best to keep an eye on what he's doing. It's hard, supremely so. Her eyes keep trying to close. The tricorder stays silent for all of two seconds before it begins chirping incessantly. Beverly had expected as much. The sound does serve to help keep her awake. Hard to sleep with that blaring in her ears.

"The screen..." She has to close her eyes to focus on the image of the tricorder screen in her mind. Carefully, she describes what he should be seeing, listening to what he tells her, and then coaching him through the diagnosis process. Cracked rib, lacerations on her head and leg, concussion. She's lucky that neither of her legs is broken, just badly bruised. The bones are likely bruised as well. If Robin had any training with her equipment, she would suggest using the regenerators, but she can barely coax him through the tricorder. The rest... are the regenerators even in one piece?

The answer, as it turns out, is no. Not that she can tell from this angle.

Either way, her head and leg will need to be bandaged and elevated and she absolutely needs to stay awake. The latter will be the harder part. She can already feel herself slipping into silence and rest.

There's so much Robin doesn't know about tending to one's injuries. Superficial injuries are relatively easy; knowing one can't die from a scrape relieves some of the pressure in wrapping up wounds. But her injuries are rather extensive and it's a bit daunting for a moment. He hardly knows this woman, but he truly does care about her. The idea that she could die under his watch, after everything she's done for him, is deeply upsetting. But she's awake enough for the moment that he can ask questions of her as he goes. He starts with the injuries he can see first, using the few supplies from her medkit to clean and wrap her injuries the best he can. He has a flask of ale he keeps with him, so he rips up some cloth from his trousers and douses it in ale when he runs out of supplies to wrap her head.

Knowing there's nothing he can do for her ribs, Robin shifts now to sit with her, gently resting her head in his lap. "How do we get a hold of your team? I believe they returned to your ship," he laments. Anything to keep her talking right now seems like a good thing.

He's doing a good job as it is, tending her to the best of his abilities. Her team should be back soon. Currently, Alyssa Ogawa is screeching at everyone to send a team back down, so with luck it won't be long at all. Beverly does wince a little at the feeling of ale cleaning, as she should -- at least it means she's still got feeling in her.

At his question, she frowns in concentration, trying to think of what exactly they had been trying to do before the cave-in. Something... a beacon? Yes. Using...

"Combadge," she murmurs, wincing as she lifts a hand slowly and tries to brush her badge. The hand only gets partway there before she has to let it rest. "Badge clipped to..." Wait, had it been clipped to her lab coat or her uniform? If it was her lab coat, then it's off with whoever she wrapped the coat around and there's nothing they can do.

Spoilers: it's actually still on her chest. She just can't see it with the angle and how much focus it's taking just to see Robin.

"If you can find the badge... tap it once and say..." Who should he call for? Alyssa? No, there wouldn't be anything she could do. The transporter rooms... which one would do it, though? No, best bet would be one person. "Say 'Captain Picard.'"

There's no telling if the signal can get through, but there's no harm in trying. It might be their only chance.
